Voice search on mobile devices has been available since long , now Google introduces Voice Search now on desktop.
It requires Google Chrome 11 or higher and a built-in or attached microphone. Just click the mic in the search bar and start talking.
It will take several days for Voice Search to be available to everyone as it start rolling out over the next week Please note Voice Search is available for US English only.
The Voice Search will be useful in many scenarios, such as -
Hard-to-spell searches
Makes searching words you're not sure how to spell quicker and easier.
Longer searches
Search long queries, even really, really long queries, just by talking.
Searches that are just more fun to search out loud
Now you can ask your computer anything.
Searching without typing
Use it in the kitchen, in the garage or anytime your hands might be full.
Another feature being made available is Search by Image on desktop
Search by image on your phone was available since 2009 with Google Goggles. Now it’ll be made available on Desktops too. To search using an image, go to images.google.com and just put your picture in the search box. There are many ways to do this. You can click the camera icon in the search box and upload a photo from your computer or paste the URL of an image from the web. You can also drag and drop pictures from webpages or your computer into the search box. To search images on the web even faster with just one click, you can download the Chrome or Firefox extensions.
Search by Image is rolling out and will be available in most countries over the next couple of days. The Chrome and Firefox extensions are available for download now, but until Search by Image is rolled out to you, you won’t see the extension active in your browser.
Instant Pages
For searches when it can be predicted with reasonable confidence that you’ll click on the first result, Instant Pages technology will begin loading that webpage early so that by the time you click on the result, the entire webpage appears fully loaded instantly.
Whether you’re typing, speaking, or using an image, entering your search is only part of the process. You’re not really done searching until you have the answer you’re looking for. But waiting for webpages to load adds time to this process - the average webpage takes about five seconds to load.
With Instant Pages in Chrome, you can skip the extra seconds waiting for a page to load and get to the answers you’re looking for faster with webpages that load instantly.
(For more info please check the source Search by text, voice, or image )
Its nice to see such features being introduced as Bing emerges as Google’s strong competitor.

Microsoft has released a beta version of Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta, a recovery tool that can help you start an infected PC and perform an offline scan to help identify and remove rootkits and other advanced malware.
This tool will help you create Standalone System Sweeper on a bootable device (on a CD, DVD, or USB drive) that will provide a safe environment from which you can start your computer and attempt to remove threats. It can be used if you cannot install or start an antivirus solution on your PC, or if the installed solution can’t detect or remove malware on your PC.
“Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta is not a replacement for a full antivirus solution providing ongoing protection; it is meant to be used in situations where you cannot start your PC due to a virus or other malware infection. For no-cost, real-time protection that helps guard your home or small business PCs against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software, download Microsoft Security Essentials*. (* Your PC must run genuine Windows to install Microsoft Security Essentials.)”
To get started, please make sure that you have a blank CD, DVD, or USB drive with at least 250 MB of space. Next, download and run the tool – the tool will help you to create the bootable media required to run the software on your PC.
Get it from https://connect.microsoft.com/systemsweeper

At the D9 Conference, Microsoft demonstrated the next generation of Windows, internally code-named “Windows 8,” for the first time. Windows 8 is a reimagining of Windows, from the chip to the interface. A Windows 8-based PC is really a new kind of device, one that scales from touch-only small screens through to large screens, with or without a keyboard and mouse.
Jensen Harris from the Windows User Experience team walks us through a quick look at "Windows 8" user interface.
The demo showed some of the ways Microsoft has reimagined the interface for a new generation of touch-centric hardware. Fast, fluid and dynamic, the experience has been transformed while keeping the power, flexibility and connectivity of Windows intact.
Here are a few aspects of the new interface:
• Fast launching of apps from a tile-based Start screen, which replaces the Windows Start menu with a customizable, scalable full-screen view of apps.
• Live tiles with notifications, showing always up-to-date information from your apps.
• Fluid, natural switching between running apps.
• Convenient ability to snap and resize an app to the side of the screen, so you can really multitask using the capabilities of Windows.
• Web-connected and Web-powered apps built using HTML5 and JavaScript that have access to the full power of the PC.
• Fully touch-optimized browsing, with all the power of hardware-accelerated Internet Explorer 10.
